Lesson B

Cell Organelles

QuestionAnswer
What is the function of the cell wall and what is it compoused of? Its function is support and protection and it contains cellulose fibrils.
What is the function of the cell membrane? It acts as a boundry between outside enviroment and materials in and out of the cell. It is a phospholipid bilayer with embedded protiens.
What is the function of chromatin and what is it compoused of? Is a network of fibrils containing DNA and associated protiens observed within a nucleus that is not dividing.
What is cristae? It is short, fingerlike projections formed by the folding of the inner membrane of mitochondria.
What is cytoplasm? It is the contents of a cell between the nucleus and the plasma membrane that contains the organelles.
What is cytoskeleton? It is the internal framework of the cell, and it consists of microtubules, actin filaments, and intermediate filaments.
What is the function of the gogli apparatus and what is it compoused of? Its functions are processing, packaging, and distribution of protiens and lipids. It is compoused of stack of membranous saccules.
What is the function of lyosome and what is it compoused of? Its function is intracellular digestion and it is compoused of membranous vesicles containing digestive enxymes.
What is the matrix? It is unstructured semifluid substance that fills the spaces between cells in connective tissues or inside organelles.
What is the nuclear envelope? It is a double membrane that surrounds the nucleus and is continuous with the endoplasmic reticulum.
What is a nuclear pore? It is a opening in the nuclear envelope that permits the passage of proteins into the nucleus and ribosomal subunits out of the nucleus.
What is the nucleolus? It is dark-staining spherical body in the nucleus that produces ribosomal subunits.
What is a organelle? It is small, often membranous structure in the cytoplasm, having a specific structure and function.
What is a polysome?
What is a ribosome? It is RNA and protein in two subunits; site of protein synthesis in the cytoplasm.
What is rough endoplasmic reticulum?

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
