TermDefinition
Tropism The response of a plant toward or away from a stimulus.
Hormone A chemical that effects growth and development. The chemical product of and endocrine gland.
Photoperiodism A plants response to seasonal changes in the length of night and day.
Critical Night Length The number of hours of darkness that determines whether or not a plant will flower.
Dormancy A period of time when an organisms growth of activity stops.
List three stimuli that produce plant responses. Touch, gravity, and light.
Give and example of both positive and negative tropism. Positive: when a plant grows toward a stimuli’s. Negative: when a plant grows away from a stimuli.
Describe what triggers a plant to flower. Photoperiodism.
Why is dormancy important? It is important because it helps plants survive in the cold and lack water.
