TermDefinition
Tropism The response of a plant toward or away from a stimulus.
Hormone A chemical that affects growth and development.
Photoperiodism A plant‘s response to seasonal changes in the length of night and day.
Critical night length The number of hours of darkness that determines whether or not a plant will flower.
Dormancy A period of time when an organism’s growth or activity stops.
List three stimuli that produce plant responses. Touch, gravity, and light.
Give an example of both positive and negative tropism. A positive tropism if a plant grows toward the stimulus and a negative tropism is if a plant grows away from the stimulus.
Describe what triggers a plant to flower. Plants flower depending on the amount of darkness.
Why dormancy is important? Dormancy is important because it helps plants survive freezing temperatures and the lack of liquid water.
