| brain | principal organ of nervous system, chief organ of mind |
| brain stem | portion of brain the connects brain to spinal cord, includes 3 regions responsible for most automatic body functions |
| central nervous system | portion of the nervous system consisting of brain and spinal cord |
| cerebellum | Small part of the brain that coordinates your muscles |
| cerebral cortex | Outer layer of the cerebrum where all activity happens |
| cerebrum | portion of the brain that coordinates muscle activity |
| corpus callosum | mass of nerve fibers through which the cerebral hemispheres communicate |
| dopamine | neurotransmitter that makes us feel pleasure |
| left hemisphere | side of the brain dominant in language processing, logical reasoning, and analytical thinking |
| right hemisphere | side of the brain dominant in creativity, intuition, and the processing of visual & spatial information |
| spinal cord | thin bundle of nerve fibers within spinal cavity by which the brain communicates with the body |
