| Term | Definition |

| Alimony | Money paid to a former spouse for a legal separation or divorce |
| Assets | Item of value that a person owns |
| Bankrupt | When someone's debt is greater than their assets |
| Cash Value | How much a insurance policy is worth if it is canceled before maturity |
| Coapplicant, Joint Applicant, Cosigner | Someone who signs a loan with the borrower |
| Co-Ownership | Joint ownership between two or more people |
| Creditor | Someone to which money is owed |
| Credit References | People who will recommend someone as a good credit risk |
| Debt | Money that is owed |
| Debt Balance | Amount of a debt that is still owed |
| Default | Failure to fulfill the term of a loan agreement |
| Dependents | someone how relies on someone for support |
| Finance Charge | The total cost to use credit |
| Interest | The amount paid for the use of borrowed money |
| Interest Rate | The percentage of the principle that the borrower pays for the use of the money |
| Liabilities | Financial obligations |
| Mortgage | A loan for purchasing real estate |
| Mortgage Holder | Person who made the mortgage loan |
| Proceeds | The amount the borrower receives from a loan |
| Real Estate | Land and property on the land |
| Repossess, Reclaim | Take back what was sold on a loan that did not meet the agreement |
