Chapter 3 lesson 1

1st period

QuestionAnswer
Chlorophyll A green photosynthetic pigment found in the chloroplast of plants, algae , and some bacteria
Photosynthesis The process of which plants and other autotrophs capture and use light energy to make food from carbon dioxide and water
Tissue A group of similar cells that form a specific function
Chloroplast An organelle in the cells of plants and some other organisms that captures energy from sunlight and changes it to an energy form that cells can use in making food
Vacuole A sac like organelle that stores food water and other materials
Cuticle The waxy water proof layer that covers the leaves and stems of most plants
Vascular Tissue The internal transporting in some plants that is made up of tube like structures that carry water, food, and minerals
Organelle Organized or specialized structures within a living cell
Chromatin The material of which chromosomes of organisms other than bacteria are composed it consists of protein RNA and DNA.
Mitochondrion Power plant
Endoplasmic reticulum A network of membranous tubules within the cytoplasm of a eukaryotic cell, continuous with the nuclear membrane. It usually has ribosomes attached and is involved in protein and lipid synthesis.
Lysosomes An organelle in the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells containing degradative enzymes enclosed in a membrane
Golgi body A complex of vesicles and folded membranes within the cytoplasm of most eukaryotic cells, involved in secretion and intracellular transport
3 main characteristics that all plants share Autotrophs, multicellular (except for algae), and plant cells are enclosed by a cell wall
2 things plants need and 2 things it makes during photosynthesis Needs carbon dioxide gas and water to make food and oxygen
2 reasons cell walls are important for plants Separates the cell from the environment and makes the cell walls rigid
5 thing plants need to survive on land Ways to obtain water and other nutrients, retain water, support there body’s , transport materials, and reproduce
Label plant diagram and why it’s different from the animal cell Cell wall, vacuole, and chloroplast, it’s different because it’s enclosed by a cell wall

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
