Chapter:3 plants
Lesson 1
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Chlorophyll | is a green pigment found in chloroplasts of plants, algae, and some bacteria |
| Photosynthesis | During photosynthesis a plant uses carbon dioxide, gas and water to make food and oxygen |
| tissue | Our groups of similar cells that blue form of specific function in an organism |
| Chloroplast, | An organelle in the cells of plants and some other organisms that captures energy from some fight and changes it to an energy fund that sells can use in making food. |
| Vacuole | Exactly like organelle that stores, water, food, and other materials |
| Cuticle | The waxy waterproof layer, that covers the leaves and stems of most plants |
| Vascular tissue | The internal transporting tissue, and some plants first made up of tubelike that carry water, food and minerals |
| Organelle | Any number of organized structure inside a cell. |
| Chromatin | Strands of DNA. |
| Mitochondrion | Mitochondria are known as the “powerhouse” of the cell because they convert energy in food molecules to energy the cell can use to carry out it’s functions |
| Endospore reticulum | Passageways carry proteins and other materials from one part of the cell to another. |
| Lysosomes | Small round structures containing chemicals that break down certain materials in the cell. |
| Golgi body | Bodies receives proteins, and other newly formed and materials from the Endo plasmic, reticulum, package them, and distribute them to other parts of the cell |
| Describe the three main characteristics that all plants share. | Multicellular, autotrophs, cell walls |
| List the two things that a plant needs and the two things it makes during photosynthesis | During photosynthesis, a plant uses carbon dioxide, gas in water to make food and oxygen |
| What are two reasons why cell walls are important to plants | The cell wall surrounds the cell membrane and separates the cell from the environment. |
| List the five things that a plant needs to survive on land | For plants to survive on land, they must have ways to obtain water and other nutrients from their surroundings, retain water, support their bodies, transport materials, and reproduce |
| Label a plant cell diagram and why it’s different from an animal cell | Cell wall, chloroplast, Vacuole |
