Chapter3 plants
Lesson 1
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Chlorophyll | A green photosynthetic pigment found in the chloroplast of plants and some bacteria |
| Photosynthesis | The process by which plants and other autotroph capture and use light energy to make food from carbon dioxide and water |
| Tissue | A group of similar cells that performs a specific function |
| Chloroplast | An organelle cells of plants and some other organisms that captures energy from the sunlight and changes to energy form cells use make food |
| Vacuole | a sack likeorganelle stores, water, food, and other materials |
| Cuticle | Waxy waterproof layer that covers the leaves and stems of most plants |
| Vascular tissue | internal transport tissue in some plants that is made of tube like structures that carry water, food and minerals |
| Organelle | A tiny structure that carries a specific function within the cell |
| Mitochondrion | Rod shaped cellular, structure that converts energy and food molecules to energy the walls can carry out it functions |
| Endoplasmic Reticulum | a cell structure, that forms a maze the passageways which proteins and other materials are carried from one part of the cell to another |
| Lysosomes | a small round cell structure containing chemicals that breakdown, large food particles into smaller ones |
| Golgi body | A structuring a cell that receives proteins and other newly formed materials from the endoplasmic reticulum packages them and distributes them too other parts of the cell |
| three main characteristic all plants share | Nearly all plants are autotroph’s produce their own food many cells plant cells are surrounded by cell walls |
| List the two reasons why cell walls are important for plants | The cell wall surrounds the membrane and separates the cell from the environment |
| List the five things that a plant needs to survive on land | They must have ways to obtain water and other nutrients from surroundings, retain water, support their bodies, transport materials, and reproduce |
| Label a plant cell diagram and why it’s different from an animal cell | Plant cells have Chloroplast, cell walls, and a larger vacuole |
| Chromatin | Floating directly ahead in the nucleus contain genetic material the instructions for directing the cells functions |
| List the two things that a plant needs, and the two things it makes during photosynthesis | it needs carbon dioxide and water to make food and oxygen |
