Chapter 3 Plants

Chapter 3 Lesson 1

TermDefinition
Chlorophyll A green photosynthetic. Pigment found in the chloroplast of plants, algae and some bacteria
Photosynthesis The prosses by witch plants and other autotrophs capture and use light energy to make food from carbon dioxide and water
Tissue a group of similar cells that preform a specific function
chloroplast an organelle in the cells of plants and some other organisms that captures energy from sunlight and changers it to an energy form that cells can use in making food from carbon
Vacuole A sac-like organelle that stores water food and other materials
Cuticle the waxy waterproof layer that cover the leaves and stems of most plants
Vascular tissue The internal transporting tissue in some plants that is made up of tubelike structures that carry water food and minerals
Organelle A tiny cell structure that caries out a specific function within the cell
Chromatin The strains called chromatin connect genetic material the instructions for directing the cell’s function
Mitochondrion Rod- shaped cell structures that convert energy in food molecules to energy the cell can use to carry out its functions
Endoplasmic reticulum A cell structure that forms a maze of passage ways in witch proteins and other materials are carried from one part of the cell to another
Lysosomes a small round cell structure containing chemicals that break down large food particles into smaller ones
Golgi body A structure in a cell that receives proteins and other newly formed materials from the endoplasmic reticulum packages them and distributes them to other part of the cell
What are the 3 main characteristics that all plants have multicellular, autotrophs, cell wall
2 things that a plant needs and the 2 things it makes during photosynthesis plants need: obtain water and other nutrients They produce: transport materials and reproduce
What are the 2 reasons why cell walls are important for plants Plant cells are enclosed by a cell wall And separates the cell from the environment And plant cells walls contain cellulose witch makes the walls rigid witch is good for crunch like a carrot
List the 5 things that a plant needs to survive on land Obtaining water and other nutrients retaining water support transporting materials reproduction
label a plant cell diagram and why its different from a animal cell Plant and animal cells are different because an animal cell doesn’t have chlorophyll and a vacuole

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
