Chapter 3 plants
lesson 1
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| what are the three main characteristics of all plants | autotrophic, multicellular, cell wall |
| 2 things that a plant needs and 2 things it makes during photosynthesis | use: carbon dioxide gas and water. Make: food and oxygen. |
| 2 reason cell walls are important for plants | they surround the cell membrane and separates the cell from the environment |
| 5 things a plant needs to survive on land | obtaining water and other nutrients, retaining water, support, transporting materials, and reproduction |
| Why is a plant cell different from an animal cell | plant cells are enclosed by a cell wall, they also include many other structures they also include a vacuole. |
| Chlorophyll | a green photosynthetic pigment found in the chloroplast of plants, algae and some bacteria. |
| Photosynthesis | the process by which planets and other autotrophs capture and use light energy to make food from carbon dioxide and water. |
| Tissue | a group of similar cells that preform a specific function. |
| Chloroplast | An organelle in the cells of plants and some other organisms that captures energy from the sunlight and changes it an energy form that cells can use in making food. |
| Vacuole | a sac like organelle that stores, food, and other materials. |
| Cuticle | the waxy, waterproof layer that covers the leaves and stems of most plants. |
| Vascular tissue | the internal transporting tissue in some plants that is made up of tube like structures that carry, food, and minera. |
| Organelle | a tiny cell structure that carries out a specific function with a cell. |
| Chromatin | chromatin, contain genetic material, the instructions for directing the cell’s function. They are the little things that hang above the nucleus. |
| Mitochondrion | rod-shaped cell structures that covert energy in food molecules to energy the cell use to carry out it functions. |
| Endoplasmic reticulum | A cell structure that forms a maze of passageway in which proteins and other materials are carried from one part of cell to the other. |
| Lysosomes | A small, round cell structures containing chemicals that break down large food particles into smaller ones. |
| Golgi body | a structure in a cell that receives proteins and other newly formed materials from the endoplasmic reticulum, packages them, and distributes them to other of the cell. |
