Cell Cycle & Mitosis
| Term | Definition |

| Cell Cycle | An ordered sequence of events in the life of a cell, from its origin to its division into two daughter cells. |
| Interphase | The period of the cell cycle during which the cell is not dividing but is preparing for division (includes G1, S, & G2 phases) |
| Mitosis | The process of nuclear division in eukaryotic cells, divided into four stages: Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, and Telophase. |
| Cytokinesis | The division of the cytoplasm to form two separate daughter cells after mitosis. |
| Cancer | Uncontrolled cell division due to disruptions in normal cell Cycle regulation. |
| Somatic Cell | Body cell. Any cell in a multicellular organism except a sperm or egg cell. |
| Apoptosis | Programmed cell death, a normal part of development and health maintenance in multicellular organisms. |
| Gamete | A haploid reproductive cell (egg or sperm). |
| Diploid (2n) | A cell containing two sets of chromosomes, one from each parent. |
| Haploid (n) | A cell containing only one set of chromosomes. |
