Autotroph An organism that can create its own food from sunlight (like plants)
Heterotroph An organism that cannot create its own food using sunlight (like humans)
ATP Main energy currency of a cell
Photosynthesis Turning light energy (sun) into nutrients/energy
Calvin Cycle Chemical reactions that convert CO2 into glucose
Light Dependent Reactions Chemical reactions involved in photosynthesis
Chloroplast An organelle used to perform photosynthesis using H2O, sunlight, and CO2
Thylakoid A membrane bound compartment that serves as the site of light dependent reactions
Stroma Supporting frame made of tissues, blood vessels, and nerves
Chlorophyll Pigment that gives plants their green color (think about how chloroPHYLL sounds like fill, and Chlorophyll fills the plant with green color ;)
