Durable Power of Attorney A legal document that designates a person to make all decisions on your behalf, when you can't
Living will a legal document where you specify your desired medical treatments in advance.
continuity of care the process by which the patient and physician are cooperatively involved in ongoing health care management
ombudsman a social worker, nurse, or trained volunteer who ensures that patients are properly cared for and respected
licensure permission is given to a person to a to operate or to work in a profession
certification a process by which an individual is evaluated and recognized as meeting certain predetermined criteria and standards
registration a list of individuals on an official record who meet the qualifications for occupation
relevant pertain to, or having to do with, the patient/client
written consent a person knowingly, without duress or coercion, clearly and explicitly consents to the proposed therapy in writing
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) a law that regulations ensuring the privacy of patient information
exempt to be free or released from some liability or requirement to which others are subject
contracts a legally binding exchange or promises or an agreement between parties that the law will enforce
principal first or among the first in importance or rank
implied contracts contracts in which some terms are not specifically stated, but are understood based on the nature of the transaction
