Biology Homeostasis Feedback Vocabulary

Dynamic Equilibrium Internal balance that is maintained in a body regardless of the constant changes in the outside environment
Hypothermia Body temperature that is abnormally low (generally between 91-94 degrees Fahrenheit)
Homeostasis Another word for dynamic equilibrium
Structure Physical parts that an organism is made up of
Function Job or duty that each structure has to perform to maintain homeostasis
Regulate Control
Feedback Mechanism Process designed to monitor a particular variable by sending signals to a regulatory mechanism
Positive Feedback Loop Process in which the body senses a change and activates mechanisms that accelerate or increase that change.
Negative Feedback Loop Process where the body senses an internal change and activated mechanisms that reverse, or negate, that change.
Thermoregulation Maintenance of body temperature
Hormone A chemical compound created inside of an endocrine gland that is secreted to affect a specific part or process of the body.
