Biology Homeostasis Feedback Vocabulary

| Dynamic Equilibrium | Internal balance that is maintained in a body regardless of the constant changes in the outside environment |
| Hypothermia | Body temperature that is abnormally low (generally between 91-94 degrees Fahrenheit) |
| Homeostasis | Another word for dynamic equilibrium |
| Structure | Physical parts that an organism is made up of |
| Function | Job or duty that each structure has to perform to maintain homeostasis |
| Regulate | Control |
| Feedback Mechanism | Process designed to monitor a particular variable by sending signals to a regulatory mechanism |
| Positive Feedback Loop | Process in which the body senses a change and activates mechanisms that accelerate or increase that change. |
| Negative Feedback Loop | Process where the body senses an internal change and activated mechanisms that reverse, or negate, that change. |
| Thermoregulation | Maintenance of body temperature |
| Hormone | A chemical compound created inside of an endocrine gland that is secreted to affect a specific part or process of the body. |
