APSM CA Biology 2.5 Excretion

ammonia toxic chemical resulting from break down of nitrogen
bladder Collects urine from the kidneys and stores it until excretion
Bowman’s capsule spherical covering of the glomerulus; collects water and dissolved substance
capillaries microscopic blood vessels linking arteries and veins, in which the exchanges between body cells and blood take place
glomerulus sieve-like structure in nephron allowing water and small molecules to escape
glucose simple sugar found in human blood; too much is a sign of diabetes
homeostasis maintaining a stable internal environment
kidneys excretory organs that filter waste from the blood and produce urine
loop of Henle part of the nephron that reabsorbs water and good chemicals
metabolism chemical processes of life
nephrons microscopic network of blood vessels and renal tubules in the kidneys that filters waste out of blood
nitrogen key component of amino acids and nucleic acids, excess can break down into ammonia
ureter Tube that connects kidneys to bladder
urethra Tube that drains the bladder
