| bladder | Collects urine from the kidneys and stores it until excretion |
| Bowman’s capsule | spherical covering of the glomerulus; collects water and dissolved substance |
| capillaries | microscopic blood vessels linking arteries and veins, in which the exchanges between body cells and blood take place |
| glomerulus | sieve-like structure in nephron allowing water and small molecules to escape |
| glucose | simple sugar found in human blood; too much is a sign of diabetes |
| homeostasis | maintaining a stable internal environment |
| kidneys | excretory organs that filter waste from the blood and produce urine |
| loop of Henle | part of the nephron that reabsorbs water and good chemicals |
| metabolism | chemical processes of life |
| nephrons | microscopic network of blood vessels and renal tubules in the kidneys that filters waste out of blood |
| nitrogen | key component of amino acids and nucleic acids, excess can break down into ammonia |
| ureter | Tube that connects kidneys to bladder |
| urethra | Tube that drains the bladder |
