| adaptation | evolution- gradual accumulations of adaptations over time |
| organization | orderly structure of cells in an organism- a characteristic of all living things |
| evolution | gradual accumulation of adaptations over time |
| control | in an experiment, the standard in which all of the conditions are kept the same |
| data | information obtained from experiments sometimes called experimental results |
| dependent variable | in an experiment, the condition that results from changes in the independent variable |
| experiment | procedure that tests a hypothesis by collecting information under controlled conditions |
| hypothesis | explanation for a question or a problem that can be formally tested |
| independent variable | in an experiment the condition that is changed because its affects the outcome of the experiment |
| safety symbol | symbol that warns you about a danger that may exist from chemicals electricity heat or experimental procedures |
| scientific methods | series of steps that biologists and other scientists use to gather info and answer questions- including observing and hypothesizing, experimenting and gathering and interpreting results |
| theory | explanation of natural phenomenon supported by a large body of scientific evidence obtained from many different investigations and observations |
| ethics | the moral principles and values held by humans |
| technology | application of scientific resesarch to societys needs and problems |
