cell organelles

organelles tiny cell parts that carry out specific functions in the cell
cell wall rigid layer surrounding the plant cell that provides support, strength and shape
cell membrane layer that controls what comes in and out of the cell
nucleus contains genetic information, controls the cells activities (also known as the brain)
cytoplasm thick, gel-like fluid inside the cell between the nucleus and the cell membrane
mitochondria the "power-house" of the cell because they produce most of the energy
endoplasmic reticulum passageways (hallways) that carry materials from one part of the cell to another
golgi body the cell's mailroom where materials are packaged and distributed
Chloroplasts contain chlorophyll (green) and make food from sunlight for plant cells
vacuoles serves as the storage area of the cell (vacuum)
cell the basic unit of structure and function of all living things (organisms)
