Abandonment dentist terminates the professional relationship with a patient without adequate notice, justifiable reason, unreasonable time, while patient is in the middle of treatment, & could jeopardize patient's oral health.
General Supervision dentist provides guide/authorization for dental procedures performed by dental hygienist/dental assistant, but doesn't need to be present physically during treatment
Civil Law law concerned with private relations of members/ community rather than criminal, military, or religious related.
Criminal Law Law concerned with punishment of those committing crimes.
Expanded Function (DA Terms) legally permitted to perform beyond DA specific procedures & tasks (EFDA) by following specialized training & state approval.
Tort Civil wrong, claimant suffers loss/harm. Resulting to legal liability for the person committing the tortious act. Negligence/intentional acts
Dental Auxiliary member of dental team who's not a dentist/dental hygienist, providing support in dental treatment.

Patient of record individual who's formally seen evaluated by healthcare professional, leading to medical diagnosis and treatment plan
Autonomy self-governance , meaning freedom & capacity to act and make decisions based on one's owns principles and motives. not controlled.
Reciprocity agreement between states allowing a licensed professional in one state to obtain a license in another state without re-examination.
Direct Supervision physically present with someone to watch, guide and correct someones work in real-time.
Res gestae meaning "things done", circumstances relevant to a transaction at issue.
Res ipsa loquitur meaning "the thing speaks for itself"
Respondeat superior legal principle, employer held liable for wrongful acts of employees.
Written consent document legally authorized by patient granting permission for procedure, treatments, etc.
TSBDE Texas state board of dental examiners, responsible for regulating the practice of dentistry in Texas.
Libel false WRITTEN statement that is damaging to a persons reputation
Slander false ORAL statement that harms or damages a persons reputation
The Good Samaritan Law legal protection against liability to a person providing emergency assistance/medical care without expecting payment.
Due Care legal standard requiring individuals/organizations to act with caution and attention to prevent harm
Confidentiality keeping or being kept private
