| What happens in a German restaurant in relation to water? | the waiter or waitress will not automatically place glasses of water or ice water on the table when you sit down. You must ask for water (Wasser), and when you do, you’ll get bottled water, and you’ll have to pay for it. |
| How does tipping work in German restaurants? | The tip will be already included in the bill. But you do usually round up to the nearest whole number. That’s called a Trinkgeld. It’s like a micro-tip in addition to the tip that’s automatically included in your bill. |
| What words mean place to eat? What else do some of these words have? | Gaststätte, Gasthof, Imbiss, and Restaurant. Some of these will also have a few guest rooms where you can stay overnight, so it’s a combination of a restaurant and a small hotel. |
