Cells & Diffusion

QuestionAnswer
What is diffusion? The movement of molecules which is the higher concentration to a low concentration.
What is osmosis? The movement of water molecules which is the higher concentration to a low concentration in water.
What is permeable? Allows any molecules to diffuse across membrane.
What is semi - permeable? Allows certain molecules to diffuse across membrane. (Cell membrane)
What is non - permeable? Allows no certain or any molecules to diffuse across membrane. (Cell wall)
What is nucleus? Controls all activites that is growth and reproduction which is in both animal and plant cell.
What is cell - membrane? Allows certain molecules to diffuse in or out of the cell. Molecules diffuse in or out of the cell which has 2 phosphourous layers interconnected. It is in both animal and plant cell.
What is cell - wall? Protects and supports its cell; allows no molecules to go in or out which is plant cell.
What is chromosomes? Proteins that contain DNA which has coded information for making molecules in both animal and plant cell.
What is Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum? Produces and stores proteins which is in both animal and plant cell.
What is Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum? Produces and stores fats or oils which is in both animal and plant cell.
What is Golgi bodies? Modifies and packages proteins from Rough ER which enzymens both animal and plant cell.
What is Ribsomes? Helps make Rough ER make proteins which is attached to Rough ER that is in both animal and plant cell.
What is centrioles? Helps with cell division (Mitosis) spindle fibres come from here which is in animal cell.
What is Mitochondria? converges sugar into energy which is in both animal and plant cell.
What is Vacuole? Stores water, minerals and vitamins which is much bigger in a plant cell that is in both animal and plant cell.
What is Lysosomes? Breaks down food, including bacteria and old/damaged organelles which is in animal cell.
What is chloroplast? Uses sunlight to make its own food which is known as photosynthesis. The formula is CO2 + H2O + Sunlight --> Sugar + O2. It is in plant cell.
What is nucleous? A largest unit in a cell.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
