Cells and Diffusion
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Nucleus | The brain of the cell that helps with growth and reproductions. In both animal and plants. |
| Nucleolus | Produces the cells Ribosomes |
| Chromosomes | Type of Proteins that contain DNA. In both animal and plants. |
| Ribosomes | Helps make protein. In both animal and plants. |
| Mitochondria | Converts sugar into energy. In both animal and plants. |
| Cell Membrane | Only allows some molecules to go in and out of the cell. 2 Phosphorous layer that are interconnected. In both animal and plants. |
| Cytoplasm | Fluid that allows organelles and other things in cells to move around. In both animal and plants. |
| Centrioles | Helps with cell division. Only in Animals. |
| Lysosomes | Breaks down food, invading bacteria and old damaged organelles. Only in Animals. |
| Vacuoles | Stores water, minerals and vitamins. This organelles is more bigger in plants. In both animal and plants. |
| Golgi Bodies | Modifies and packs proteins from Rough E.R. In both animal and plants. |
| Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum | Produces and stores proteins. In both animal and plants. |
| Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum | Produces and stores fats. In both animal and plants. |
| Chloroplast | Uses sunlight to make food. Photosynthesis: CO2 + H2O + light-> sugar + O2. Only in Plants. |
| Cell Wall | Supports the cells. It doesn't allow anything past it. Only in Plants. |
| Osmosis | Movement of water from a area from high concentration to low concentration. |
| Permeable | Allows any molecules to diffuse membrane |
| Semi - Permeable | Some can be diffused |
| Non - Permeable | Nothing can be diffused |
| Diffusion | Movement of molecules from a area from high concentration to low concentration |
