| Food Chain | A description of the feeding sequence of one set of organisms |
| Food Web | A description of the overlapping food chains in an ecosystem |
| Producer | An organism, such as plants or algae, that makes its own food |
| Herbivore | An animal that eats plants, algae, and other producers |
| Carnivore | An animal that eats another animal |
| Omnivore | An animal that eats both plants and animals |
| Scavenger | A meat eating animal that feeds on the remains of dead animals |
| Photosynthesis | The food-making process in green plants that uses sunlight |
| Decomposer | An organism that breaks down dead material into useful things like minerals and rich soil |
| Predator | A living thing that hunts other living things for food |
| Prey | A living thing that is hunted for food |

| Primary consumer | animal (herbivore) that eats plants |
