Digestive Enzymes and Their Functions

What nutrient does amylase break down? Carbohydrates (specifically starch into sugars).
Where is amylase produced? Salivary glands and pancreas.
What nutrient does pepsin digest? Proteins
Where is pepsin active? In the stomach.
What nutrient does lipase break down? Lipids (fats).
Where is lipase produced? Pancreas (and small amounts from the mouth and stomach).
What is the role of bile in digestion? Bile emulsifies fats, breaking them into smaller droplets (not an enzyme but crucial for fat digestion).
What nutrient does trypsin break down? Proteins (continuing protein digestion in the small intestine).
Where is trypsin produced? Pancreas (secreted into the small intestine).
What is the function of lactase? Breaks down lactose (milk sugar) into glucose and galactose.
