Anatomy

Coronary Arteries Vessels that branch off from the aorta and supply oxygen-rich blood to the heart muscle; delivers oxygen and nutrients to the heart to pump blood
Upper respiratory tract Composed of the nose, nasopharynx, oropharynx, and larynx
Lower respiratory tract Consists of the trachea, all segments of the bronchial tree, and the lungs
Larynx Voice box; lies between the root of the tongue and the upper end of the trachea
Pharynx Throat; extends from base of the skull to the esophagus
Alveoli Spongy microscopic air spaces at terminals of bronchial tree
Artery Vessel that carries blood away from the heart
Vein Vessel that carries blood towards the heart
Capillary Microscopic vessel that carries blood between arteries and veins; permits exchange of substances between the blood and surrounding tissue
Epicardium Outer layer of the heart wall
Myocardium The thick, contractile, middle layer of the cardiac muscle
Endocardium The lining of the interior of the myocardial wall
