Heterotrophic an organism that cannot produce its own food and must obtain nutrition by consuming other organisms
Eubacteria prokaryotic microorganisms consisting of a single cell lacking a nucleus and containing DNA is a single circular chromosome
Decomposers an organism (as a bacterium or a fungus) that feeds on and breaks down dead plant or animal matter
Archaebacteria a group of microorganisms considered to be an ancient form of life that evolved separately from the bacteria and blue-green algae
Protista a diverse group of eukaryotic organisms, meaning they have a nucleus in their cells, that are neither plants, animals, nor fung
Animalia the kingdom that includes all animals, both living and extinct
Plantae the kingdom of all plants, encompassing everything from mosses and ferns to conifers and flowering plants
Fungi eukaryotic organisms, lacking chlorophyll, that obtain nutrients by absorbing organic matter from their environment, often by decomposing dead material, and are characterized by thread-like structures called hyphae that form a network called a mycelium
