What are Flowering Plants? the most common plants. they grow everywhere.
What Do Flowers Do? help plants make seeds. They attract bees and pollinators.
What are Petals? Colorful parts that attract pollinators.
What are Sepals? Green leaves under the flower that protect it.
What are the Flower's Male Reproductive Part? Stamen = makes pollen to help create seeds
What are the Flower's Female Reproductive Part? Pistil = Holds the ovary, where seeds grow
What Is a Fruit? helps the seed travel to new places when ready
What are Drupes? One big seed inside
What are Berries? Many seeds inside
What are Pome? A fruit with a core
What are Aggregate Fruits? Many tiny fruits in one
What are Multiple Fruits? Comes from many flowers
What are Different Types of Fruits? Drupes Berries Pomes Aggregate Fruits Multiple Fruits
What are Nuts? Hard shell
What are Grains? Small and dry
What are Pods? Open up when ready

How Do Seeds Travel? Wind, Animal, and Water
How does wind carry seeds? Light seeds fly away
How does animals carry seeds? Some stick to fur, some get eaten
How does water carry seeds? Seeds float to new places
What's inside a Seed? Seed Coat Cotyledons Plumule Radicle
What does the Seed coat do? Protects the seed
What are Cotyledons? First baby leaves that store food
What are Plumule? Tiny shoot that becomes the stem
What are Radicle? Tiny root that grows downward
How Do Seeds Grow? Germination
Step 1 of Germination? Seed drinks water
Step 2 of Germination? The coat breaks down
Step 3 of Germination? Root grows down, stem grows up
What Helps Plants Grow? Sunlight Water Soil
How does Sunlight help plants grow? Plants use it to make food
How does Water help plants grow? Helps them stay strong
How does Soil help plants grow? Holds nutrients for growth
What Are Plant Hormones? Auxins Gibberellins Cytokinins Abscisic Acid Ethylene
What are Auxins? Helps the stems grow tall
What are Gibberellins? Helps the flowers and seeds grow
What are Cytokinins? Helps the cells divide
What are Abscisic Acids? Tells leaves when to fall
What are Ethylene? Helps the fruit ripen
What are Tropisms? Phototropism Gravitropism
What is Phototropism? Plants bends toward sunlight
What is Gravitropism? Roots growing down, stems growing up
How Do Plants Make Babies? Meiosis
What is Sporophyte? Makes spores (like tiny plant eggs)
What is Gametophyte? Makes sperm and egg cells
