| Epidermis | The protective outer layer of the skin |
| Dermis | the middle layer of skin, located beneath the epidermis, that contains blood vessels, nerves, hair follicles, and sweat glands, providing structural support and flexibility to the ski |
| Nail Plate | the visible, hard part of a fingernail or toenail, essentially the nail itself, which is made up of a protein called keratin and sits on top of the nail bed |
| Nail Bed | the living tissue under the nail plate that provides nourishment to the nail |
| Nail Matrix | the area at the base of a fingernail or toenail where new cells are produced |
| Cuticle | the various forms of the outermost covering of organisms |
| Follicles | a thin layer of clear dead skin located at the nail bed |
| Glands | An organ that makes one or more substances, such as hormones, digestive juices, sweat, tears, saliva, or milk |
| Clot | a semi-solid mass of blood cells and proteins that forms when blood hardens |
| Immune Cells | a complex network of cells, tissues, and organs within the body that works to protect against infection by identifying and destroying harmful foreign substances like bacteria, viruses, and parasites |
