| Respiratory System | a group of organs in the body that allows for the intake of oxygen from the air and the release of carbon dioxide |
| Nose | a sensory organ and respiratory passageway that allows you to breathe and smell |
| Mouth | the opening in an organism's body through which food is taken in, usually containing structures like lips, teeth, and tongue, and marking the beginning of the digestive system |
| Larynx | The area of the throat containing the vocal cords and used for breathing, swallowing, and talking. |
| Epiglottis | a flap of cartilage that closes over the windpipe to prevent food from entering the lungs |
| Pharynx | a hollow, muscular tube inside the neck that starts behind the nose and opens into the larynx and esophagus |
| Trachea | a tube that allows air to travel from the nose or mouth to the lungs |
| Bronchi | The large air passages that lead from the trachea (windpipe) to the lungs |
| Bronchioles | A tiny branch of air tubes in the lungs |
| Alveoli | Tiny air sacs at the end of the bronchioles |
| Capillaries | tiny, thin-walled blood vessels that connect arteries to veins. |
| Diaphragm | a dome-shaped muscle that separates the chest cavity from the abdominal cavity. It plays a crucial role in breathing by contracting and flattening to expand the chest cavity and inhale air, and relaxing to push the air out |
