Carrying Capacity

| biotic | living, or produced by living things |
| carrying capacity | the maximum number of organisms an environment can support for many years |
| community | All the different populations that live together in an area |
| limiting factor | An environmental factor that prevents a population from increasing |
| organism | A single, self-contained living thing. |
| population | A group of individuals that belong to the same species and live in the same area |
| resource | any necessity of life, such as water, nutrients, light, food, or space |
| species | A group of organisms that are closely related and can mate to produce fertile offspring |
| predator | An animal that hunts other animals for food |
| prey | An organism that is killed and eaten by another organism |
| competition | A condition that occurs when two or more organisms compete for the same resources within an ecological community |
| predation | An interaction between organisms where one organism captures and consumes another organism |
| biodiversity | the variety of life in the world or in a particular habitat or ecosystem. |
| Ecosystem | A biological community of interacting organisms and their physical environment. |
| density-dependent limiting factor | limiting factor that depends on population density |
| population growth determined by | births + immigration - deaths - emigration |
| Immigration | Movement of individuals into a population |
| Emigration | movement of individuals out of an area |
