Animal Body Plans
Chapter 4 Lesson 2
| Definition | |
|---|---|
| Tissue | A group of similar cells that perform a specific function. |
| Organ | A body structure that is composed of different kinds of tissues that work together. |
| Radial Symmetry | A body plant in which any number of imaginary lines that pass through a central point divide the animal into two mirror images. |
| Bilateral Symmetry | A body plan in which as single imaginary line divides the body into left and right sides that are mirror images. |
| Describe an animals body plan. | The organization of an animal's cells into higher levels of structure, including tissues, organs, and organ systems. |
| How are the structures of animals related to their symmetry? | It is a balanced display of what is seen. |
| Describe what an asymmetrical animal body type means and give an example of an animal. | Asymmetrical body type means that there is no way that it could be divided up into a mirror image. Ex.: sponge |
| Describe what radial body symmetry means and give an example. of an animal. | Radial symmetrical body type means that there are multiple ways of splitting it up into mirror image. Ex.: sea star |
| Describe what bilateral symmetry means and give an example of an animal. | Bilateral symmetrical body type means that there is only one way to split it up into a mirror image. Ex:. bird |
