What is the latent period? The time period between exposure to ionizing radiation and when clinical signs first emerge.
Somatic effects affect: occurs in the person irradiated
Genetic effects affect: do not impact the person irradiated but will be passed on to future generations.
Radiosensitive tissues: Lymphoid tissue, bone marrow, testes, and intestines
Radioresistant tissues: Salivary glands, kidney, and liver
Name 3 geometric characteristics Contrast, Density, Sharpness
Kvp controls: Energy of the x-ray beam, density, and contrast.
mA controls: Density and the number of x-rays emitted from the tubehead.
Radiolucent object: Structure that appears dark
Radiopaque object: Structure that appears white
What are images examined for? Caries, perio disease, unerupted teeth, infection
