What is developmental biology? Developmental Biology is the study of an organisms initiation and construction from a single cell to birth
What are two processes studied in developmental biology? Regeneration and Metamorphosis
What is Regeneration? Stem cells regenerative tissue for the constant renewal of cells throughout an organisms life
What are the two goals of developmental biology? 1. Formation -- generate cellular diversity and order within each generation 2. Reproductive Success -- continuity of life from one generation to the next
Define Morphogenesis Movement and change of the cells shape during differentiation. Cells take on different shapes and express different genes
Define Differentiation Process where a stem cell becomes a specific cell type
How are cells categorized in regards to morphogenesis? 1. Epithelial cells -- cells connected to other cells 2. Mesenchymal cells -- cells that are detached
What are the four qualities of development? 1. Growth 2. Reproduction 3. Evolution 4. Environmental Integration
