| cytoplasm | jelly-like substance that holds organelles in place within the cell membrane |
| cell wall | rigid structure outside of the cell membrane that supports and protects the cell |
| cell membrane | controls what goes in and out of the cell- maintaining homeostasis. it is made of lipids- sometimes called as the plasma membrane or phospholipid bilayer |
| vacuole | mainly used for storage in the cell |
| lysosome | digest and recycles materials |
| mitochondria | makes ATP, the energy which cells run on |
| golgi body | modifies, sorts, and packages lipids and proteins. it packages them into vesicles |
| rough ER | the site of protein synthesis |
| smooth ER | the site of lipid synthesis |
| chloroplast | the site of photosynthesis |
| vesicle | membrane bound sacs used to transport material around and to the outside of the cell |
| nucleolus | the site of ribsome synthesis |
| ribosomes | make proteins |
| motor protein "John" | carry vesicles around the cell |
| centriole/centrosome | allows the cell to divide during cell divison |
| cytoskeleton | helps cells maintain their shape and interal organization |
| synthesis | to make |
