What does phylum NEMATODA mean? Means " Round worms"
Where do NEMATODES live? Almost everywhere; soil, lakes, hot springs, oceans
What does their DIGESTIVE system look like? Complete digestive system with 2 openings
Are NEMATODES Coelomates? They have a pseudocoelom
What does MOVEMENT look like? Longitudinal muscle that runs along length of body
What type of food do they eat/ what does FEEDING/EXCRETION look like? Most are carnivores/ omnivores --> algae, fungi, decaying matter & some are parasitic. They feed through the pharynx and undigested food goes through anus.
What does RESPIRATION/CIRCULATION look like? Diffusion of gases/ metabolic wastes through body walls
What type of NERVOUS SYSTEM do they have? They have ganglia, dorsal and ventral nerve cords
What does REPRODUCTION look like? Sexual or Asexual reproduction, most have separate sexes
what are examples of NEMATODES? Ascaris, Hookworms, Trichonella worms & Filarial worms
What disease do Ascaris worms cause? Ascaris worms infected the intestine and multiple hosts
What disease do Hook worms cause? Hookworms infect intestines of humans in tropical countries
What disease do Trichonella worms cause? A intestinal disease called Trichinous
What disease do Filarial worms cause? Filarial worms infected the blood and blood vessels
What is the lymphatic system? It brings blood throughout the body
