Extraoral Imaging

| Extra oral | receptor/sensor is placed outside mouth |
| Uses of extraoral projection | evaluation of large areas of skull/jaw, growth and development, impacted teeth, trauma and TMJ areas, detection of lesions and conditions of jaw and diseases |
| Before exposure of extraoral imaging | receptor/sensor must be prepared, infection controls must be complete and exposure factors must be selected |
| After preparing equipment dental assistant must | explain procedure to patient, place lead apron, and tell patient to remove all dense objects from head and neck |
