Extraoral Imaging

Extra oral receptor/sensor is placed outside mouth
Uses of extraoral projection evaluation of large areas of skull/jaw, growth and development, impacted teeth, trauma and TMJ areas, detection of lesions and conditions of jaw and diseases
Before exposure of extraoral imaging receptor/sensor must be prepared, infection controls must be complete and exposure factors must be selected
After preparing equipment dental assistant must explain procedure to patient, place lead apron, and tell patient to remove all dense objects from head and neck
