Introduction to Dental Imaging Examinations
| Term | Definition |

| Dentulous | areas that exhibit tooth, tooth bearing areas |
| Edentulous | area without teeth |
| Pariapical receptor | used for pariapical imaging (one arch at a time, full crown and root) |
| Bitewing receptor | used for interproximal examination and both arches |
| Occlusal receptor | used for occlusal examination (patient bites on full receptor and some of receptor is extraoral) |
| Intraoral receptor | placed inside mouth to examine teeth/ supporting structures |
| Extraoral receptor | placed outside mouth (panoramic imaging and cephiomethe) |
| Maxilla | upper jaw |
| Mandible | lower jaw |
| Occlusion | to close or to bite |
| Direct Imaging | Charge Couple Device is most common digital receptor is wireless |
