Introduction to Dental Imaging Examinations

TermDefinition
Dentulous areas that exhibit tooth, tooth bearing areas
Edentulous area without teeth
Pariapical receptor used for pariapical imaging (one arch at a time, full crown and root)
Bitewing receptor used for interproximal examination and both arches
Occlusal receptor used for occlusal examination (patient bites on full receptor and some of receptor is extraoral)
Intraoral receptor placed inside mouth to examine teeth/ supporting structures
Extraoral receptor placed outside mouth (panoramic imaging and cephiomethe)
Maxilla upper jaw
Mandible lower jaw
Occlusion to close or to bite
Direct Imaging Charge Couple Device is most common digital receptor is wireless
