| Limiting Factors | Things like food, water, and space that control the growth of a population |
| Carrying Capacity | The largest population that fits into an area |
| Decomposer | A living thing that breaks down dead things into dirt |
| Producer | A plant that uses the sun’s energy to make food through photosynthesis |
| Primary Consumer | A living thing that eats plants |
| Secondary Consumer | A living thing that eats primary consumers |
| Tertiary Consumer | A living thing at the top of the food chain that eats secondary consumers. |
| Ecological Succession | The process of one community slowly changing into another, like a forest growing back after a fire |
| Climax community | A community that no longer grows or changes |
| Pioneer Species | The first species that grows or lives on new land |
