Plant Parts/Function
Biology
| Plant Part | Function |
|---|---|
| Roots | Anchor the plant and absorb water/nutrients from the soil. |
| Stem | Transport water and nutrients and support leaves/flowers. |
| Leaf | Capture sunlight to make food (photosynthesis). |
| Flower | Attract pollinators and produce seeds. |
| Fruit | Protect and hold the seeds. |
| Seed | Multicellular embryo that grows into new plants. |
| Bud | direct plant growth (vertical or lateral), initiating reproduction, and enabling survival through periods of dormancy |
| Bark | a critical protective armor, insulating the tree from environmental extremes, fire, and pests while preventing water loss |
| Spores | Single celled embryo that grows into a plant. |
| Thorn | physical armor to protect trees from being eaten by insects and mammals. |
| Root hair | increase the root surface area for maximum absorption of water and nutrients (like nitrogen) from the soil |
| Branches | help the transport water, sugar and nutrients to the leaves and canopy (crown) of the tree |
| Tendrils | support climbing plants by anchoring them to structures like trellises or other plants |
