| Bilateral symmetry | capable of being divided into two halves that are mirror images of each other |
| Radial symmetry | symmetry that arises from a central axis |
| Open circulatory system | a system in which blood is not confined to blood vessels but is pumped into the body cavity to have direct contact with the organs |
| External fertilization | fertilization that occurs outside the parents' bodies |
