isotope form of an element that has the same number of protons but a different number of neutrons as another element
ion atom that has gained or lost 1 or more electrons
proton a subatomic particle with a positive electrical charge in the nucleus
element substance made of only 1 type of atom that cannot be broken down by chemical means
atom smallest basic unit of matter
molecule 2 or more atoms held together by covalent bonds; not necessarily a compound
compound substance made of atoms of different elements that are bonded together in a particular ratio
neutron a subatomic particle of about the same mass as a proton but without an electrical charge
ionic bond chemical bond formed through the electrical force between oppositely charged ions
covalent bond chemical bond formed when 2 atoms share 1 or more pairs of electrons
electron a small negatively charged subatomic particle that orbits the nucleus of an atom
