Anatomy Weeks 1-5

What is a primer mover ? any muscle that performs an action is a mover , a muscle that directly performs a specific movement
Antagonist muscles- muscles , when contracting , directly oppose prime movers (agonists)
Synergist muscles - muscles that contract at the same time as the prime mover
Fixator muscles- stabilize the joints , serve to maintain posture or balance during contraction of prime movers
Levers system class mechanical device that makes the work of moving a weight or other loas easier in some way
First Class Lever levers of stability i.e. head being raised or tipped backward
Second Class Lever the load lies between the fulcrum and the joint at which the pull is exerted
Third Class Lever the pull is exerted between the fulcrum and the resistance or load to be moved , permit rapid and extensive movement and are the most common type found in the body
origin - point of attachment that does not move when the muscle contracts i.e. origin bone will be more stationary
Insertion- point of attachment that moves when the muscle contracts
