Textbook Definitions

Cytoplasm Gelatinous liquid that fills the inside of a cell, protects and holds
Nucleoid Region within nucleus, regulatory center, contains genetic information, DNA, only prokaryotes
Plasmids Double stranded DNA molecule, distinct from cell, chromosomes, DNA, usually prokaryotes
Ribosomes Organelles containing RNA and proteins, protein synthesis
Cytoskeleton Collection of different protein fibers, cell shape and internal organization
Organelle Membrane-bound compartment within a cell, one or more unique functions
Cells Wall Boundary of cellulose and chitin, tensile strength and protection
Flagellum/ Flagella Core of microtubules, usually singular, movement, propeller, bacteria
Fimbria Projection from cell membrane, attachment, numerous, bacteria
