Cell Energy
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Photosynthesis | Process of making food/glucose using water, CO2 and energy from the sun, |
| Cellular Respiration | Process of glucose getting oxidized to create ATP, CO2 and water |
| Carbon Dioxide | Absorbed into a plant as a reactant for photosynthesis; given off as a product of respiration |
| Oxygen | Released from a plant as a product after photosynthesis; used as a reactant in cellular respiration |
| Water | Absorbed through the roots of a plant to be used as a reactant during photosynthesis; given off as a product of respiration |
| Glucose | Sugar/food that is made during photosynthesis and used during cellular respiration |
| Autotroph | Organism that makes its own food |
| Heterotroph | Organism that must consume other organisms to get energy |
| Reactant | raw materials used in a chemical reaction (think: ingredients) |
| Product | End result of a chemical reaction, what is made at the end |
| Chloroplast | Site of photosynthesis, found in plant cells only |
| Chlorophyll | Green pigment that absorbs sunlight |
| Mitochondria | Site of cellular respiration, found in all eukaryotic cells |
