QuestionAnswer
What elements are essential for life? CHON Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen, Nitrogen
Where is electron located, their charge, and size? Electron is located outside of the nucleus, have a negative charge and are a smaller size.
Where is proton located, their charge, and size? Proton is located in the nucleus, have a positive charge, and the same size as a neutron.
Where is neutron located, their charge, and size? Neutron is located in the nucleus, are neutral, and the same size as a proton
Which shell has the highest potential energy? The 3rd shell
What is a covalent bond? When a pair of electrons are shared by atoms
What is an ionic bond? When one atom gives one or more electrons to another atom
What is a hydrogen bond? A covalent bonded atom that is also attracted to another electronegative atom
Which bond is the strongest and why? Covalent bond is the strongest since they form the cell molecule
What is the difference between polar and non-polar? Non-polar share the electron equally and Polar is when one atom has more electronegative and don't share electrons equally.
Why does the shape of a molecule matter? The structure defines the function
If 2 molecules are similar but not exact, will the function be the same? No, most of the time even a slight difference can change the whole function or purpose.
What is Matter? Anything that takes up space
What is an element? Substance that can't be broken down with other substance
What is a molecule? A group of 2 or more atoms bonded together
What is a compound? Substance consisting 2 or more elements
What is an Ion? atom ore molecule with a different # of electrons and protons
What is an Isotope? different # of neutrons
What is Reactant? The starting molecule of a chemical reaction

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
