| Copula | A connecting word which connects a subject and complement; in English: a form of the verb "to be". Example: "is" in "The cat is tired." "Seem" in "The bike seems sturdy." |
| Coarticulation | The articulation of two or more speech sounds together, so that one influences the other. Example: the pre-rounding of the lips when saying "school"; the nasalization to the preceding vowel when saying "can". |
| Closed Syllable | Syllables that end with a consonant sound, either with a single consonant or a consonant blend. In polysyllabic words, a closed syllable contains a short vowel sound that is closed by two consonants. Example: [ɹæt], [bɑks], and [bʌk] in "bucket" |
