Eco problems

TermDefinition
Bacteria IMPORTANT to soil, decomposition and N-cycle
Fossil Fuels Coal, oil and natural gas. Put CO2 and other chemicals in the atmosphere. Cause climate change, smog/air pollution
Alternate Energy Renewable resources to create energy without pollution. Sustainable.
Climate Change Caused by increased Greenhouse Gasses like CO2 and methane
Invasive Species Creatures that are non-native enter a habitat, grow out of control and outcompete native species.
Nutrient Pollution Caused by N and P from fertilizer and soaps. Creates algae blooms, which lower O2 in water, dead zones.
Acid Rain Caused by S and N in the atmosphere, from coal. Acidifies lakes.
Ozone Depletion Caused by CFCs in the atmosphere. Decreased UV protection, kills plants/crops.
Biological Magnification Toxins concentrate at the top of the food chain
Lichen Mutual organism of fungus and algae
Carrying Capacity The population number of a species that the ecosystem is able to support
