Rickettsia - Transmission via tick/lice [arthropod vector] - Multiply in inner lining of blood vessel, causing cardiovascular damage & rashes.
Rickettsia rickettsii Rockey mountain spotted fever -transmitted via ticks
Rickettsia prowazekii Epidemic typhus - transmitted via lice - common in crowded unsanitary areas
Chlamydia No vector transmission required Two stages: - Elementary body -> Infectious stage - Reticulate body -> Larger, multiplies inside host cell, later gives rise to elementary cell to infect other cells.
Chlamydia trachomatis causes... - Trachoma -> form of blindness - Non-gonococcal urethritis -> very prevalent STD
Mycoplasma pneumoniae Causes Mycoplasma Pneumonia, aka walking pneumonia or primary atypical pneumonia
Mycoplasma... pleomorphic, lacks cell wall
Rickettsia & Chlamydia Obligate intracellular parasites - Very small, smaller than some of the largest viruses
