How do Punnett Squares and Pedigrees Model Venetic variation?
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Punnett Square | A modeling tool for determining the expected ratios of different genotypes in the offspring of two parents. Represented by a big square with 4 smaller squares. The results give a probability of certain phenotype outcomes. |
| Pedigree chart | An illustrated model that shows the inheritance of a trait over several generations that is commonly created for families, for it outlines the inheritance patterns of genetic disorders and traits. |
| Genotype | Allele makeup of your traits similar to a set of instructions in cells that determine how a trait is expressed (what an organism looks like). These alleles are passed from parent to offspring through genes located on chromosomes of parental DNA. |
| Phenotype | Expression of traits based upon the makeup of the alleles of an organism. Examples include hair color, type of fur, tall, short etc. m |
