Bio/Int. 2-Lesson 10
Cellular Behavior/Energy
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Cellular Signaling | how cells communicate with each other |
| Chemical Signaling | occurs when a cell secretes a chemical that can be transported to the receptors of distant cells |
| Receptor Signaling | occurs when two cells come into direct contact with one another and a signal is given off |
| Autotroph | organisms that use energy directly from sunlight to make organic compounds |
| Heterotrophs | organisms that obtain energy from food instead of directly from the sun |
| ATP | form of chemical energy used by cells, energy is stored within the phosphate bonds |
| ADP | this is produced when an ATP molecule loses one phosphate group to release energy for cellular processes, it can be recharged and another phosphate group attached back on to then create ATP |
