Cells & Diffusion
Part A
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Nucleus | controls all activities o the cell, growth and reproduction |
| cell membrane | allows certain molecules to go in or out of the cell |
| cell wall | supports and protects the plant, does not allow molescules in or out |
| chromosomes | proteins that contain DNA which has coded information of making molecules |
| rough endoplasmic reticulum | produces and stores proteins |
| smooth endoplasmic reticulum | produces and stores fat & oils |
| golgi bodies | modifies & packages proteins from rough er with enzyms |
| ribosomes | helps rough er make proteins is attached to the rough er |
| centrioles | helps with cell division (mitosis) spindle fibres come from here |
| mitochondira | converts sugar into energy for the cell |
| cytoplasm | flui in the cell, allows organells to move around |
| vacuole | stores water, minerals & vitamins much bigger in plant cells |
| lysosomes | breaks down food, invading bacteria, and old/damaged organelles |
| chloroplasts | uses sunlight to make its own food |
| diffusion | movement of moleecules from areas of high concentraion to low concentraiton |
| permeable | allows any molecules to diffuse across membrane |
| semi-permeable | allows certain molecules to diffuse across membrane ex. cell membrane |
| non permeable | allows o molecules to diffuse across membrane |
| osmosis | movement of water molecules from high concetration to low concentration of water |
